Course Description:
This course is designed for nurses new to oncology to learn cancer disease states which includes diagnosis,
treatment and care of the oncology patient. The course can service as a review for nurses preparing for an oncology certification exam.
Objectives:
After completion of the course the nurse will:
Understand the pathophysiology of cancer for both solid tumors and bone marrow tumors
Describe major cancers including diagnosis, treatment and prognosis
Explain the cancers that have inherited genetic mutations
List treatment options for the major cancers
Define resources for psychosocial care of cancer patients
Understand the pathophysiology of ONC emergencies in adults
Describe the side effect of BMT
Identify screening guidelines from ACS
Define resources for psychosocial care of cancer patients
